Seed Development and Maturation

چکیده

Abstract In plants, a fascinating set of post-fertilization events result in the development dispersal unit known as seed. During maturation phase, seeds accumulate storage reserves and acquire desiccation tolerance, followed by an increase seed vigour during drying. Physiological (or mass) maturity may be attributed to stage when maximum dry matter accumulation has occurred, marking end seed-filling phase. The at harvest is one most important factors that can influence quality seeds. Recent studies established longevity continue even after physiological maturity, signifying importance late phase for maximizing quality. Among plant hormones, abscisic acid (ABA) been studied extensively its role maturation. Apart from ABA, gibberellic (GA), cytokinin auxin also play critical Desiccation tolerance begins much before attainment maturity. Acquisition associated with embryo oligosaccharides raffinose family, low molecular weight antioxidants, embryogenesis abundant proteins heat shock coupled structural changes cellular level. To obtain (in terms germination, longevity), harvesting needs performed or slightly period which moisture content stabilizes environmental factors. this chapter, attempt made present current understanding concentrating on various aspects viz. phases development, other affecting concepts relevance quality, indices crop plants acquisition

changes in seed quality during seed development and maturation in four cultivars sesame (sesamum indicum l.)

in order to achieve high quality seeds, producers must be able to estimate the accurate harvest maturity time seeds. the objective of this study was to investigate changes in seed quality during seed development and maturation in the two cultivars native of the sari and gorgan and two cultivars modified of the darab14 and yellowhite. a field experiment was conducted in during 2009 at gorgan uni...

Kin Selection and Conflict in Seed Maturation

There are four genetically distinct components in the developing seeds of flowering plants: maternal sporophyte, gametophyte, endosperm, and embryo. Each component can potentially influence the quantity or quality of nutrients provided to the embryo of its seed, thereby reducing the amount available to embryos in other seeds of that plant. The theory of kin selection predicts that each componen...

Seed maturation: genetic programmes and control signals.

Seed maturation is mainly governed by a few genes best studied in maize and Arabidopsis. The isolation of the LEC1 and FUS3 genes, besides the previously known VP1/AB/3 genes, and their identification as transcriptional regulators provides the first direct hints as to their molecular mode of action. With the identification of new effector genes, the investigation of the role of hormones with ne...

Wheat seed weight and quality differ temporally in sensitivity to warm or cool conditions during seed development and maturation

Background and aims Short periods of extreme temperature may affect wheat (Triticum aestivum) seed weight, but also quality. Temporal sensitivity to extreme temperature during seed development and maturation was investigated. Methods Plants of 'Tybalt' grown at ambient temperature were moved to growth cabinets at 29/20°C or 34/20°C (2010), or 15/10°C or 34/20°C (2011), for successive 7-d peri...

The Effects of Progesterone on Oocyte Maturation and Embryo Development

Oocyte maturation and embryo development are controlled by intra-ovarian factors such as steroid hormones. Progesterone (P4) exists in the follicular fluid that contributes to normal mammalian ovarian function and has several critical functions during embryo development and implantation, including endometrial receptivity, embryonic survival during gestation and transformation of the endometrial...
